Award-winning documentary "Alcatraz Reunion" (directed by John Paget) screens at the San Francisco Frozen Film Festival on Friday night, July 10th, 6:25pm at the Big Roxie Theatre.

After all, George "Machine Gun" Kelly, Whitey Bulger, and Al Capone all called Alcatraz "home" at one time or another. In Alcatraz Reunion, as the prison's 70th anniversary approaches, award-winning filmmaker John Paget invites former alumni back to the fortress. Planning an unconventional reunion of epic proportions, he sets out on a cross-country road trip to track down ex-inmates and correctional officers, all while exploring the ins and outs of Alcatraz and its transformation from infamous state penitentiary to lauded tourist attraction. Best of Fest!

Alcatraz Reunion won "Best of Fest" - the top prize at Oklahoma's Southern Winds Film Festival.  Results posted here.

The film went on to kick off opening night of the 8th Annual Kansas International Film Festival on September 19th.

In other news, I was asked to write a foreword for a book by ex-Alcatraz convict John Dekker, one of the main characters in my documentary.  I'll post again when the book rolls out.  Check out Dekker's facebook page here.

Alcatraz Reunion screens this weekend at Oklahoma Film Festival

Alcatraz Reunion screens at 3:45pm Saturday, Sept. 13th at the Hornbeck Theatre in Shawnee, Oklahoma as part of the 2nd annual Southern Winds Film Festival.

Alcatraz Reunion was mentioned in news articles previewing the upcoming festival.

And next weekend it's the Kansas International Film Festival, where Alcatraz Reunion will be presented on opening night, Friday, September 19th at 5:45pm.  Director John Paget will be there to present the film.

ALCATRAZ REUNION Wins Best Documentary at Iowa City Film Festival

Alcatraz Reunion won best documentary at the 2nd annual Landlocked Film Festival in Iowa City, IA (August 21-24, 2008).
It initially screened at the kickoff of the festival on August 21st at the historic Englert Theatre in downtown Iowa City, and was given an encore screening on August 24th after winning the top prize for feature-length documentary.

Alcatraz Reunion to screen at three upcoming film festivals

Alcatraz Reunion will kick off the Landlocked Film Festival, in downtown Iowa City, Iowa (a town I am excited to visit as it has become something of a pilgrimage destination for the literati).  The festival runs August 21-24.  Alcatraz Reunion is the inaugural screening on opening night - August 21st  6:30pm at the Englert Theatre.

In September, Alcatraz Reunion will screen at Southern Winds Film Festival in Oklahoma, Sept 11-13, 2008 and the Kansas International Film Festival, Sep 19-25th, 2008  -- (exact screening date/time TBA).
